Pathways Blog Post - 25.09.2026

It feels like those hot summer days were only yesterday, but autumn has now made its entrance. The days are getting shorter, the air is becoming cooler and the leaves are beginning to turn shades of brown, orange, and gold. The ‘ber months are my favourite, fluffy socks, hot chocolate and that cosy feeling that autumn brings. 

This week, several of our classes have visited the library as part of their English lessons. These visits encourage curiosity, inspire creativity and provide valuable opportunities for pupils to develop not only their love of reading but also important life and independent living skills 

As part of our Community Living Pathway, pupils have enjoyed visits to the local area where they are developing an understanding of the community around them. I love seeing the impact that accessing the local area has on our young people, their confidence, independence and valuable life skills. 

As we continue to access the community throughout the autumn term, can I please ask that pupils come to school with a coat, we all know how unpredictable and wet the weather can be. 

Today was National Teaching Assistants' Day and I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of our Teaching Assistants. The hard work, dedication and commitment they show each and every day make a tremendous difference to the lives of our pupils.

CL3

This week, CL3 have been remarkably busy. We have been on a trip and learnt lots of new skills in our lessons.  

Alexandra Park 

As part of their Pathway topic is Environmental Awareness. CL3 have been to Alexandra Park this week to look out how their environment around them is changing now it is Autumn. Students have selected three different types of trees which they will observe over the period of six weeks and record the changes that have occurred. CL3 enjoyed collecting leaves of distinct colours to bring back to school and create an art piece. Students have also been researching what animals will start to hibernate.  

Maths 

In Maths CL3 have been participating in hands on lessons to help them identify coins, understand their values and master the art of ordering them from least to greatest.  

Food technology 

In Food Technology, we looked at making sandwiches which the students enjoyed. We made cheese and jam sandwiches. Students used the following skills to make their sandwiches. Spreading and cutting. Everyone enjoyed eating their sandwiches.  

Overall, the students have worked exceptionally hard this week. We are so proud of how they have all bonded and supporting each other. We cannot wait see how well they keep progressing through this academic year.

CL4

This week, CL4 have had a fantastic time learning across a range of subjects. In Maths, we have been working hard on rounding numbers and practising how to round up correctly. In English, we have been developing our persuasive writing skills by creating powerful persuasive sentences to advertise a product. We also enjoyed a visit to the library, where we explored different books and practised choosing texts that interested us. 

In Living Skills, we learned about making healthy food choices and discussed how different foods can help us stay fit and well. In Food Technology, we put our learning into practice by making delicious parsnip soup. Everyone enjoyed preparing the ingredients, following the recipe, and tasting the finished soup. It has been a busy and successful week, and we are proud of all the effort and enthusiasm shown by the class.
