Pathways Blog - 27.3.26

As another academic term comes to a close, it is a good time to reflect just how far Pathways has come since September.

  •      Out of Classroom visits continue to go from strength to strength, placing class based theory into real world environments.
  •      Our qualification offer grows as we had our first Food Technology practical exams take place.
  •      Transition processes are well underway for both Year 11s and the incoming Year 9s.
  •      An effective Student Council has increased the volume of the student voice.
  •      The site continues to develop and enhance the learning environment for all users.

For this to have been achieved, I have to thank our dedicated and unwavering staff team at Pathways. Their desire to want what’s best for our learners drives us forward.

In Summer, we are going to continue our trajectory to develop even further to help our pupils and staff Create Meaningful Futures.

Spring Term completed...Roll on the Summer!

CL1

This week, CL1 had a fantastic opportunity to put their Community Living and Living Skills learning into real practice. The class successfully travelled by tram to Rochdale Town Hall, showing great independence, confidence, and teamwork throughout the journey. During the visit, pupils explored the historic building and learned about its rich past and importance within the local area. They were especially interested in the architecture and the stories connected to Rochdale’s development over time.

We were incredibly proud of how well the students represented our school and how engaged they were during the tour. Experiences like this help them build valuable life skills while deepening their understanding of the community around them.

The class have had a fantastic term overall and have worked extremely hard throughout. We are very proud of everything they have achieved.

CL4

This week In Learning for Life, CL4 have been strengthening their communication skills by playing games!! We’ve gone ‘old school’ and played Tic-Tac-Toe (or, as Mrs I calls it, “Noughts and Crosses!), Dots and Boxes and even Connect Four.  This was great fun, but also allowed the class to work on their turn taking and waiting skills.

We finished the session with a game of Super Mario Dobble. Needless to say, Mrs I came last!

CL5 A Wonderful Term of Culture and Creativity!

This term, CL5 have been diving deep into our Culture topic and what a fantastic journey it’s been! We finished off the unit with a brilliant trip to the cinema, where everyone enjoyed watching a SpongeBob together on the big screen. Afterwards, we made the most of the beautiful weather by having lunch out in the sunshine, which added a perfect touch to the day.

Our class also had great fun taking part in the World Book Day Whodunit event. Pupils worked together to solve the mystery, using their reading and inference skills in a playful and engaging way. We’ve continued to nurture our love of reading with regular library trips, giving everyone a chance to explore new books and find stories that inspire them.

Alongside all this, CL5 have been working extremely hard on their English Functional Skills exams. Their dedication and effort have been fantastic to see, and we’re incredibly proud of how much progress they’ve made.

It’s been a busy, exciting, and successful term. Well done, CL5!

Digi

Digi went to a coding workshop in the Apple Store in Manchester this week. The lucky students got a chance to explore Apple’s ‘Swift’ coding language, and got to input commands to make their characters move and complete simple objectives. The students were all positively engaged and very respectful during the visit. We are hoping to do more workshops with Apple in the future!

LUMSPM

On our last day of term, the pupils have enjoyed Super Learning Day!

To start, we had two pupils tell us about their religions that they followed, Christianity and Islam. Creativity was on the menu, as pupils made stain glass windows, rosary beads, Buddhist flower carpet and trying plenty of different foods.

To end the day, Thomas wanted to show the class what he has been doing for his cadet training, all the class joined in and really enjoy themselves.

Manchester Museum

Our History class enjoyed an inspiring trip to Manchester Museum, and what a fantastic experience it was! From the moment we arrived, the students were buzzing with excitement, and the museum did not disappoint.

We explored ancient artefacts from across the world, including Egyptian mummies, Roman treasures, and fascinating objects from early human history. The students were especially captivated by the museum’s collection of natural history exhibits the huge skeletons and preserved creatures sparked plenty of curious questions.

What really made the trip special was seeing the class engage so confidently with the displays. They made thoughtful observations, shared ideas with one another, and connected what they saw to our lessons back at school. It was a joy to watch history come alive for them. Overall, the day was a huge success.
