Pathways Blog - 20.3.26

The weather has certainly lifted spirits at New Bridge Pathways, bringing a real buzz around the building – Spring is most definitely here.

From English Entry Level Functional Skills exams and an education workshop to the Apple store in Manchester, our first practical assessments in food technology and a living skills trip to the cinema, it has been a jam packed and productive week with fantastic learning opportunities.

This Friday, the whole school was glowing with colour as staff and pupils proudly wore red in support of Red Nose Day. Together, we raised £34.62 for this incredible cause. While it may seem a small amount, just £25 can provide a young person in the UK who has experienced homelessness with a starter pack—helping them take those first steps towards living independently in a new home.

Today, many of our pupils, staff and families are also taking time to celebrate Eid. Eid Mubarak to everyone marking this special occasion.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and the beautiful weather continues.

CL3

CL3 have braved the recent cold weather and have been culture vultures.

We visited Alexandra Park and discovered that the park was one of the first ever Job Creation’ schemes, developed to provide employment for many cotton mill workers, who due to the Federal blockade of Confederate seaports during the 1861 American Civil War, found themselves without any raw cotton to spin.

Students looked at many of the monuments that paid homage to some of our famous Oldhamers.

We went in the old boat house, which has been restored into a cafe.

We also visited Oldham gallery. Looking at our rich and varied culture from the cotton industry to modern day exhibitions.

Digi Apple Workshop

Today a mixture of Digi students were lucky enough to attend a workshop in the Apple Store! They were given Ipads and Apple Pencils to use and were taught how to use some digital art apps like Freeform and Procreate. Everyone had a fantastic time learning and creating, and we’re very proud of their finished self-portraits. We had (too much) lunch in the Arndale Food Court and ran into the incredible Doctor Darey on the way back to school. Overall, a fantastic day complete with fantastic weather!

Fake away

This term we have continued our fake away topic with classes enjoying making burgers, chicken strips, kebabs and curry. The pupils have been using the hobs, oven and grill safely and learning how to test when a range of meats are thoroughly cooked. The pupils have really enjoyed personalising their recipes and have impressed with their presentation!

BTEC assessments started this week for year 11, sadly I cannot share their work yet but a huge shout out to all 16 pupils that have completed theirs this week, they have absolutely nailed it! Good luck to everyone who is doing theirs next week.
