Pathways Blog - 1.5.26
The recent sunshine has certainly contributed to the bright atmosphere around New Bridge Pathways - the sun really does make a difference. As always, it has been a busy week, some pupils have begun sitting their Maths Functional Skills exams, others visited the Museum of Science and Industry as part of their living skills programme, and a number of families joined us for an information presentation about the Year 11 Haven residential.
During the week, I also had the pleasure of carrying out several learning visits, spending time in several classrooms. It was wonderful to see the high-quality teaching and learning taking place. The strong relationships between staff and young people was very apparent, this helps make pupils feel safe, supported and has a positive impact on pupils' overall engagement and progress.
Remember that Pathways is closed on Monday 4th May and re-opens on Tuesday 5th May
Enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend, stay safe.

Art Highlights: Portrait Week in CL5!
It’s been a week of creativity in CL5 as we’ve been exploring the world of portrait drawing. We swapped our usual notebooks for sketchpads to study the unique details that make every face different.
Our inspiration started with a fantastic trip to Gallery Oldham. Seeing professional portraits up close gave us great ideas on how to use light and shadow to bring a face to life.
Back in class, we started with self-portraits, practicing how to get our proportions and features just right. We then moved on to sketching famous faces, from historical icons to modern-day stars.
The best part? Every student really enjoyed the process, and the most common feedback was: “I’d love to do this again!”
Well done, everyone.

Digi 2
Last Thursday, Digi 2 enjoyed an exciting trip to the Imperial War Museum, travelling by tram. The class gained valuable first-hand experience of independent travel (with supervision, of course) and learned some fascinating facts about the past. Everyone had a wonderful time, made even better by the sunshine.

Last week, students undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award practice expedition completed a challenging and rewarding overnight camp across the local moorland. The expedition began on the first day with a steady walk from Crompton Moor to Windy Hill, giving students the opportunity to put their navigation and pacing skills into practice while managing their equipment and working together as a team.
After a long but successful day of walking, the group arrived at Dog Hill Scout Camp, where they set up camp for the night. Students were responsible for pitching their tents, cooking their own meals, and organising their kit, developing independence and resilience as well as teamwork and communication skills.
On the second day, the expedition continued with a scenic walk from the campsite across the moors towards Ogden Reservoir. Despite tired legs, students remained positive and motivated, supporting one another and applying what they had learned throughout the expedition.
All students had a great time and successfully rose to the challenges of the weekend. They developed key skills required for their final silver expedition, including navigation, campcraft, teamwork, and perseverance, while gaining confidence and valuable experience in an outdoor environment.

Litter Picking
This week a fantastic group of students took it upon themselves to tackles the litter we had accumulating on the playground! At lunchtime, they went outside armed with litter pickers and bin bags and gathered up all the rubbish that had blown in under the fence. We’re all very proud of everyone who came together to help keep our school nice and tidy, we’ll done all!
