Mrs Tootill's Blog - 28.6.24

I can’t believe we have 3 weeks to go and 2 weeks ago the year 8’s were in Disney!!!

The summer is fast approaching and this week, the heat has been particularly difficult for our students and staff. But we’ve managed to survive the week and here we are at Friday (and it’s raining).

This week has been busy busy busy and we are firming up our planning for the next academic year and are welcoming in our new year 7 children. The team is busy planning transition and our Record of Achievement, Celebration events for year 9 and 11. While we always feel sad about saying goodbye, is also a brilliant reminder of how far our children have come and what’s next.

This week we also celebrated the achievements of our Early Career Teachers (ECT). As the title suggests, these colleagues are new to the profession but through the work done here at New Bridge through mentoring and developing – they are actually exemplary teachers. Mrs Holland presented their journey to our governing body and to the Executive team and it was brilliant to see the difference they make. Special thanks goes to the mentors, but also to Mrs Holland – who really has done a first class job.

Some of our year 9 pupils have been working hard over the last half term learning how to become effective leaders on a 'Set for Success' programme sponsored by the LTA (Lawn tennis association) We have been very lucky to have been working with Charlotte Hartley an ex-GB Hockey player developing their leadership skills, communication and organisation. The pupils had to complete a social action project and they decided to deliver a sports session to our communication groups. This was amazing to see. Next week the pupils are going to the Etihad to talk about their project to other schools on the programme.

Good luck all!

As part of the art curriculum year 9 have been making Picasso inspired masks out of clay. Students then glazed and added ribbon so that they can be displayed at home. Well done 9LMN!
