VE Day Celebrations!

Today at Roman Road we have celebrated VE Day. And it’s simply been magnificent.

Although the actual 80th Anniversary of the day when the German Army surrendered to the Allie countries – was yesterday - Thursday the 8th of May in 1945, we decided to choose today to make this prestigious occasion.

New Bridge did this in true – NB style.

The school looks amazing, with bunting and flags. Upstairs Miss Daly and Miss Ball have created an interactive museum alongside 9CHS – which students and staff have experienced and enjoyed.

In our VE celebrations we had food, drinks, music with amazing vocals from Miss McCoy and supported by Mr Thompson.

We had afternoon tea, cakes and hot dogs, face painting and sports.

Finally, we had splash the teacher and I think the students loved throwing the sponges at My Lyons, Mr Higgins, Miss Ward and myself.

Although the prize for who seemed to get the most sponges must go to Mr Flanagan – who looked like he had been through a car wash!!!

Miss Mullin has worked with all our classes to produce our beautiful poppies in area outside Harrison’s Hut. It’s a lovely addition to our outside areas and that we have a place to remember.

We were also joined by our Chair of Governors Andrea Greenwood who joined in the festivities and fun and really enjoyed her time with us.

A huge thank you needs to go to Mr Hanif and the team – I am so sorry I can’t list you all – but thank you for the day.

It has been such a brilliant celebration and time of remembrance of the people who died within both World Wars, for the brave people who fought for us and for the sacrifices made for us to be living in a free world.

We hope the students have had a day to remember.

I’m going to let the pictures do the talking.
