“WOW!” – Destiny Students Rise to the Challenge at Sharp Futures

Over the past four weeks, students from Destiny have taken part in an exciting and immersive experience with Sharp Futures, where they were challenged to design and develop their own unique business ideas.

And the results? Simply — WOW!

Each student produced a professional PowerPoint presentation to showcase their work, highlighting the dedication, creativity, and effort they have poured into the project. Their hard work culminated in a final presentation day, where they had the opportunity to present to staff including Scott, Richard, and the team at Sharp Futures.

As part of the brief, students were required to incorporate three key elements: design, photography, and videography. They were given the freedom to use these elements in any way they wished, allowing them to organise and present their ideas in a way that best reflected their vision and creativity.

The variety of concepts on display were simply “impressive” — from innovative art-based ideas to dynamic car-related businesses. Each student delivered their presentation with professionalism and confidence, clearly communicating their ideas and demonstrating a strong understanding of their target audience.

The level of creativity, skill, and clarity shown throughout was truly outstanding. Every student received valuable feedback on their work and was awarded a certificate in recognition of their achievements.

We are incredibly proud of what these students have accomplished in such a short space of time — especially alongside other placement commitments. This experience has given them a real insight into life as a freelance designer, helping them build both practical skills and confidence for the future.

Proud Moment as Students and Staff Attend Buckingham Palace for Gold DofE Award

Several New Bridge students received their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Buckingham Palace. This was a truly memorable and prestigious moment that reflects years of dedication, resilience, and personal growth.

Having completed challenging expeditions, volunteered in their communities, developed new skills, and demonstrated strong commitment, the students felt a strong sense of pride and accomplishment, recognising not only what they have achieved individually but also the confidence, leadership, and independence they have gained along the way.

Learning to Save Lives: First Aid Workshops at New Bridge College and Future Finders

Recently, students at New Bridge College and Future Finders were given a truly invaluable opportunity, to learn essential first aid skills through engaging and interactive workshops delivered by the British Red Cross. Led by the highly skilled and approachable David Morgan, these sessions were not only informative but also incredibly enjoyable, leaving students inspired, confident, and eager to learn more.

From the moment the sessions began, it was clear that this was not going to be a typical classroom experience. David brought energy, warmth, and humour into the room, immediately putting students at ease and encouraging participation. As Maia shared, "David was really good, he made the session fun," reflecting the positive atmosphere felt across both settings.

The workshops covered a range of vital life-saving techniques, including how to respond in emergency situations, perform basic first aid, and support someone in need before professional help arrives. Rather than simply listening to instructions, students were actively involved in hands-on activities, role play, and group discussions. This practical approach ensured that everyone had the chance to build confidence and practise their skills in a safe and supportive environment.

One of the standout aspects of the sessions was how engaged the students were throughout. It was inspiring to see them ask thoughtful questions, work collaboratively, and take real ownership of their learning. Katie summed this up perfectly, saying, "I learned so much from it, it was great," highlighting just how impactful the sessions were.

Students particularly enjoyed practising real-life scenarios, where they could apply what they had learned in meaningful ways. Whether it was helping someone who had fainted or learning how to stay calm in an emergency, the activities brought the learning to life and made it highly relevant to everyday situations. Sulaiman reflected on this, saying, "I know how to do CPR now," demonstrating the real, practical skills students took away from the experience.

The impact of the workshop was evident not only in students’ enthusiasm but also in their growing confidence. Many expressed how empowered they felt knowing that they now had the skills to potentially help someone in need. These are not just classroom skills; they are life skills that can make a real difference in the community.

The collaboration with the British Red Cross has been a fantastic addition to the learning experience at both New Bridge College and Future Finders. It highlights the importance of preparing young people with practical knowledge that extends beyond academic achievement.

A huge thank you goes to David Morgan for delivering such an engaging and impactful workshop. His passion for teaching first aid and his ability to make learning both fun and meaningful truly stood out.

We look forward to welcoming the British Red Cross back in the future and continuing to equip our students with the skills, confidence, and awareness they need to make a positive difference in the world.

New Bridge College Students Take the Wheel!

During Enrichment at the College this week, students got to ‘test drive’ our new Tenstar UK car driving simulator.

The simulator provides a safe and realistic environment to develop essential driving skills.  Students can practice a wide range of scenarios, from basic vehicle control to more complex situations such as navigating busy traffic, adverse weather conditions, and hazard awareness.

This technology will enable our students to build confidence and improve their decision making without the risks associated with real-world driving. By integrating the Tenstar simulator into Living Skills, the College aims to help students gain practical experience, understand road safety, and prepare more effectively for future driving lessons and careers in transport-related industries.
