🎭 Lumenus Update! 🎶

It’s been a busy and brilliant week for our Lumenus students across BTEC Level 1, 2 and 3!
✨ Creative Arts Highlights
Our Level 1 & 2 students have been reflecting on their performances in ‘King of the Trees,’ while Level 3s have been interviewing professional actors to gain real insight into the industry.
All students have also been exploring Frantic Assembly, watching ‘Things I Know to Be True’ and analysing how performance and production techniques express the theme of love ❤️
🌀 Movement Therapy
On Tuesday, students took part in their weekly movement therapy session with Katy Dymoke (Touchdown) at OTW — supporting confidence, expression and wellbeing.
🎵 World Music
In Music, students have been getting hands-on with World Music, finishing the week with a fun (and competitive!) Kahoot quiz 🌍

🎭 Exciting Opportunity: FLIP‑IT
Some of our Level 3 students have been invited to take part in FLIP‑IT, an event for local employers focusing on the value of supported internships for SEND young people.
Students will be contributing through Forum Theatre, showcasing what inclusive workplaces can look like.
Rehearsals begin Friday afternoon and continue Monday — we can’t wait to see them shine!
🌟 Another fantastic week of creativity, hard work and real-world learning. Well done, Lumenus!
Pre Internship

In September 2025, one of our 16-year-old students began the Pre-Internship Pathway and from New Bridge Pathways. Since starting, he has excelled and consistently surpassed expectations.
He quickly became a highly valued and popular student during his work experience placement at David Lloyd Clubs, where he worked as a Clubroom Assistant.
During the busy New Year period, when membership increased significantly following the introduction of new Padel courts Reece went above and beyond, supporting staff and assisting during one of the club’s busiest times.
We are incredibly proud to share that, with the support of his parents, he has now secured a Saturday job as a Clubroom Assistant, paid employment as a result of his hard work and dedication.
Well done, Reece!
We are extremely proud of your achievements and your journey into paid employment. Your commitment and positive attitude have truly paid off and this is just the beginning!

In January 2026, I was offered the opportunity to move from the Pre-Internship Pathway at NBC to the BTG (Bridging the Gap) pathway.
I was informed that I would be going to the Atrium Café as my placement, if I chose to switch to BTG. So, without hesitation, I decided to proceed with the change to BTG.
My first placement on my return to the Atrium. The start of a new era for me, it was a decent start! I started by cleaning the dinner boxes, the tables, on top of folding up the cutlery and writing out the dinner trays for the college lunches. I also take out the bins on Thursdays. Tuesday and Thursday are my work placement days, I work for 4 hours from 10am to 2pm. Afterwards, I return to college and I fill in my growth journal.
Date of completion: 04.03.2026

New Bridge College Celebrates World Book Day with a Whole‑College Reading Takeover
To ensure that every learner could take part, including those usually out on placement, New Bridge College held its World Book Day celebrations on Friday 6th March, transforming the day into a full celebration of reading, creativity and book-inspired fun.
The morning began with a staff and student fancy dress competition, with everyone invited to come in “reading‑themed” costumes. The range of characters on show, from classic literature to modern comics, brought a lively and colourful buzz to the college, with prizes awarded for the most imaginative outfits.
Across the morning, the College also took part in ‘Drop Everything and Read’: three 15‑minute reading slots where the entire community stopped what they were doing to read. Students could choose anything: a book, e‑book, comic, graphic novel, magazine, newspaper article or something linked to their subject. The focus was simple: all reading counts!
At reception, a ‘Take or Swap a Book’ table offered students the chance to pick up something new to read. Staff donated a brilliant mix of texts - from Andrew Ridgeley’s autobiography to Thor comics, ensuring there was something for every interest. Students were free to take a book even if they didn’t have one to swap, making reading accessible for all.
During the afternoon’s Enrichment Movie Club, the theme continued, with all film choices linked to books, comics or graphic novels. Students voted on the title they wanted to watch, keeping the day fully rooted in storytelling.
To mark the occasion in a lasting way, the College also transformed its PSHE graffiti wall into a new Reading Wall. It was stripped back and re‑imagined as a celebration of favourite book covers and reading quotes. Staff began adding their own favourites, with the first contribution being the cover of a book currently being read by a member of the team.
World Book Day at New Bridge College created a joyful, inclusive celebration of reading—bringing students and staff together through stories, creativity and shared enthusiasm for books.
