Destiny

A great start to an inspiring new project based on the work of Cindy Sherman.

This exciting new project introduces our young Destiny photographers to the work of Cindy Sherman, an artist renowned for using photography to explore identity, transformation, and storytelling. Taking inspiration from her approach, students will experiment with costumes, props, and self-portraiture to express a range of identities and characters.

The featured photograph, captured by Harrison Shaw, showcases Gianfranco Marino as he transforms himself into Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc, embodying the spirit of the sport through creative expression.

Through this project, students will not only develop their technical photography skills but also gain a deeper understanding of how visual storytelling can shape and challenge perceptions of identity.

New Bridge College Photography Group Captures Urban Decay in Manchester’s Northern Quarter

A group of four young photographers from New Bridge College recently took a trip to Manchester’s Northern Quarter to work on an exciting photography project focused on urban decay. The students explored the area, capturing striking images of abandoned buildings, weathered brickwork, and vibrant street art that tell a story of the city’s ever-changing landscape.

The Northern Quarter, known for its mix of history and creativity, provided the perfect backdrop with their photography skills. From rusting metal structures to graffiti-covered walls, each shot highlighted the contrast between neglect and artistic expression.

The experience was both educational and inspiring, with the students honing their ability to find beauty in unexpected places. Their work will be showcased later in the year in their final exhibition, where visitors will have the chance to see Manchester through their unique perspectives.

This trip was not just about photography—it was about storytelling, creativity, and learning to see the world differently. The young photographers left with a deeper appreciation for urban landscapes and a collection of stunning images that reflect their talent and vision.

Stay tuned for more details about their upcoming exhibition!

Red Nose Day

On Friday 21st of March, the whole college celebrated Comic Relief. Lumenus hosted some activities such as Bake sale, the Big Red Quiz, and Guess the staff’s baby pictures. The college had the opportunity to wear red, it was great to see staff and students dressed up to celebrate this day!

People had the opportunity to donate some money and so far, I am pleased to announce that we have raised over £55. All of Lumenus, want to say a huge thanks for contributing to help comic relief!

What a great day!
