Pathways Blog - 7.11.25

Welcome back to Autumn 2 of the 2025/26 academic year - I hope you and your families had an enjoyable half term.

Pupils have picked up where they left off before the break, being safe, showing respect, and being ready to learn.

This week, I have spent some time back in the classroom, delivering to and reconnecting with pupils. What stood out for me is the young peoples eagerness to engage and learn, and how they celebrate their own and others successes.

I have also noticed that our Year 11s are stepping up and setting a good example to others – holding the door for people, knocking and waiting, initiating conversation and using appropriate manners and supporting their peers in making correct choices -   these simple acts of kindness can, and does, have a big impact on people.

Enjoy your weekend, stay safe

Digi 1

To kick off this term, Digi1 went on a trip to The Lowry at Salford Quays, to experience the 360 Lowry gallery and see how digital media can be used in performance work.

The installation took audience members inside Lowry’s painting ‘Going to the Match’ where we witnessed the work come to life on the walls, floor, and ceiling around us.

Even though we were just standing still, it felt as if we were moving around the room and within the piece as we moved through the piece to see the bustling streetlife and packed queues of people waiting in line to see the Bolton Wanderers play. Students remarked that the experience was nothing like they’d seen before and were very excited to have had the chance to see this piece of work.

We took them around the gallery to see some other pieces of Lowry’s art as well as the visiting Quentin Blake exhibition.

Lumenus KS4

During the last week of term Lumenus KS4 students had the exciting opportunity to attend a special effects (SFX) workshop, where they explore the amazing world of movie magic and creativity behind the scenes.

The workshop was led by Rebecca Fearnley from New Bridge College, who shared inside knowledge on how SFX are used in film and television. Students were fascinated to see how special effects can completely transform a story and bring imagination to life on screen.

During the hands-on sessions, students worked in teams to create their own effects. Students experimented with stage blood and latex to make realistic injury makeup. There was lots of laughter, teamwork, and plenty of creativity as everyone got stuck in!

By the end of the day, student had gained not only practical skills but also a deeper appreciation for the artistry involved in film production. The experience inspired them to think about future careers in media make up design and special effect artistry.

We are incredibly proud of our students for embracing this opportunity with enthusiasm and creativity. A huge thank you to the workshop team for giving our learners such an unforgettable experience.
