Mrs T's Blog (6.2.26)
It’s been another cold week and as I’m writing this it’s actually snowing!!!
I was thinking how fast the year moves and a year ago – we welcomed OFSTED into our school to see the amazing things we do at Roman Road .
We have some more visitors this week ( not OFSTED ) with colleagues from Apple and other educators from the North West coming into school to see the amazing students learning using the iPads. In school, the iPad isn’t a toy or gaming device, but an amazing way to work, communicate and in one class – the students used it to assess their work!!!
It was brilliant to see how we use technology. Beginning with Mr Garry – who was able to show delegates how we use the iPad to transfer images to our 3 D printers ( don’t ask me how they do this ??) and share how much our students love using the printer to create and build resources. Amazing.
We then moved onto Miss Wallwork’s class where the students were assessing their own work in maths and taking pictures of their work as evidence ( thank you Daniel and Zindane for sharing ). Again, amazing.
We ventured into IB 1 with the team – Miss Ward, Miss Dickinson and Miss Warner, where students were making decisions and communicating choices through the pad. Thank you to Ewan who was particularly keen on showing his preferences towards his next piece of banana.
And then to art , music and English – all subjects which regularly use the iPad and apps to learn and this was really apparent to see in the ease in which the children enter the class and already know what they need to do and how they need to do it.
A massive thank you goes to all the students involved – really show casing what they can do – with the help of amazing technology.
We are constantly looking and opening up students learning and through the Ipads – this really was shown when colleagues from our school and from Hollinwood were able to demonstrate how the iPads can be used to commutation through Boardmaker and the pad can support and provide structure around routines and the school day.
Next week – we move into the last week of Spring term and the half way point of the yea . Can’t wait to see what the Spring term brings.
