Learning Centre Blog (23.1.26)

This is my first blog of the Spring term, and we have certainly been busy at the Learning Centre as our class blogs have shown.

This week Miss Williams has shared all the news from IB 4 and I love the sentence ‘the classroom has been buzzing with energy, laughter, and a whole lot of learning.’

The class have been busy hopping on the number train in maths, BFG themed cooking, preparing for Chinese New Year in creative arts and looking at ‘the squirrels who squabbled’ as part of RSHE.

Students have also been working on their communication skills (I’d like to join the signing next time please), I wish I had seen everyone rolled up like a sausage roll. You’ll need to read the blog for more information!

Well done to the staff and students in IB4.

Mr Dawson's class have also been busy. Their pathways topic is culture, they have been looking at local folklore stories, re-enacted the tale of the two giants from Saddleworth – how did I miss that?. The class have also created their own folk/morris dance, which the whole class performed.

Fabulous work guys, please invite me to the next performance.

Please do check out the blogs on Facebook.

Our student council met last week and were brilliant. I’m always blown away by their maturity and contributions in meetings. They are also driven by the needs of their peers and the desire as a group to come to decisions which are for the benefit of all. Our Politicians should follow their example!

The students council have agreed our mobile phone guidance for use policy, agreed that the funds raised at the Christmas market would go towards an Easter disco. They discussed the ‘Meet the Teachers’ podcast (watch this space), and voted on the design for the student council information board.

Thanks also to Cathy Williams for attending the meeting and supporting our amazing young people and showing them that their voice matters.

This week I also called upon one of our students, Sehrib, to be a part of the interview process for the staff member who will be supporting him and his VI needs.

I asked Sehrib how he found the interview process.

"It was both easy and hard. The hard bits were talking to someone I didn’t know, the easy bit was reading my braille questions.

I was a little bit nervous when Miss Allison asked me, but I wanted to do it. I was also nervous on the day of the interviews. It was a bit overwhelming, but I talked to staff and then I was ok.

I asked the candidate questions; they also asked me some questions. I feel good that I have played a part in deciding who will support me at the LC."

Sehrib's voice was central in this process and hopefully he feels confident that his voice matters and should be heard and more importantly has influence.

Thanks, Sehrib, for overcoming your fears, you’re a star!

Have a great weekend everyone

Miss A
