🌟 Ebase 3 CMD – A Term Full of Success and Smiles! 🌟

What a fantastic term it has been in Ebase 3 CMD! We've been busy celebrating our achievements, learning new skills, and making the most of the sunshine. It’s been wonderful to see so many smiling faces and so much progress across all areas of our learning.

We began the term by taking time to reflect and celebrate two important events: VE Day and Autism Awareness Day. These days gave us a chance to learn about history, celebrate individuality, and understand the importance of inclusion and kindness.

Despite all the fun, we've also continued to work incredibly hard in our core subjects. In maths, we've been building our confidence with numbers and money, while in English we've enjoyed exploring stories, improving our writing, and developing our communication skills.

One of the highlights this term has been starting a new sensory story – The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This classic tale has come alive in our classroom with lots of textures, colours, and interactive storytelling.

In Creative Arts, we’ve been discovering a bold new technique – graffiti art! We’ve experimented with bright colours and geometric shapes, learning how to express ourselves in imaginative ways while exploring different materials and styles.

We’ve also enjoyed exploring our world further during Enrichment. This term, we’ve taken exciting journeys to Egypt and Spain! We got creative making our own hieroglyphic name posters when learning about Egyptian culture and had fun crafting castanets while exploring the vibrant traditions of Spain. It’s been a wonderful way to learn about other countries through hands-on activities, music, and art.

With the arrival of warmer weather, we've been spending more time outdoors. Our sessions in Outdoor Education and time in the garden have been both relaxing and enriching. Whether we’ve been playing, walking, or simply enjoying the fresh air, it’s been a joy to connect with nature. We've also had lots of fun with water sensory play, helping us cool down and engage with our senses. And of course, PE outside has kept us active, moving, and full of energy!

We’re so proud of all the amazing things we’ve achieved this term in Ebase 3 CMD. Every student has shone in their own way, and we can’t wait to see what next term brings!

Keep up the brilliant work, everyone! 🌍🎨📚

CLAKE
This term in English our topic is 'From Plot to Plate'. We are learning where our food comes from and here at the Learning Centre we are fortunate to have lots of opportunities to observe food growing.

Whilst we have fine weather, the groups have been going outside to look at the apple and pear trees in the garden.

Students are keeping a weekly apple and pear diary. Using their iPads, they take photos of a tree of their choice and then write a few sentences about what they can see and feel.

Many students were surprised that blossom appears first and then the fruit. Currently, the fruits are very small, about the size of a garden pea.  Everyone is looking forward to watching the fruits develop over the summer.

Here are some extracts from the student's diaries.

Bailey:

Thursday 1st May

I can see a small, green, bud that is about to become a little apple.

Aidan:

1st May

I can see little white flowers called blossom.

Jamie:

Thursday 1st May

I have seen some white blossoms on the trees and they were beautiful.

Imogen:

12.5.25

There are tiny apples growing on the trees. They are small and feel hard.

Mack:

12.5.25

The blossom has gone now. Little apples are growing. They feel hard. You can't eat them yet.

Ebase 1

This half term in Ebase 1 we have been working hard in all our lessons. In English we have taken part in sensory stories where we brought the Gruffalo to life.

Wonderful story telling, plus the added props, kept our students entertained, engaged and exploring their senses. A group of our students have been recognising characters from the story ‘Funny fish’ and matching characters to name all done in a way that keeps their learning fun and rewarding.

For some of our students, a part of our English lessons has been focused on fine motor stills. In English this was done using a tuff tray and a variety of items for mark making, offering not only help in fine motor skills, but opportunities in independent exploratory play. Last but certainly not least, we have been working on writing our names using over tracing sheets and visual prompt techniques.

In maths we have been working in 2 groups. Group 1 have been focusing on money: identifying and matching coins and notes from 1p up to £50 and also match in coins and notes to their written value.

Numbers: students have been recognising and ordering numbers from 1 and going up by 5 each time they demonstrate being able to do this without needed help from staff.

Group 2 have again been focusing on fine motor skills, this time bus using pieces of knotted string and slotting bead and buttons on and off and focusing on their engagement during lessons.

All in all, each student has shown improvement in their work in such a small space of time, and we have been extremely proud to be part of their learning journey.

For creative arts, we have been ‘bopping into the 80’s’ and researching art created by Keith Fleming, as well as listening to some well-known and well-loved music from the 80’s. As well as dancing, we have been using musical instruments, trying to play each one to the beat.

It’s safe to say, staff were really shown up by our amazing students when it came to dancing, but it’s the taking part that matters!

For our masterpiece, we incorporated some core memory gaming form the 80,s (the near impossible to master Rubix cube) Keith Flemings art and painting created by dipping pieces of string into different coloured paint and mark making on a blank piece of paper. Combined, Ebase 1 have made a unique and funky piece of artwork that we are all very proud of.

In our home lessons we have been concentrating on sorting laundry, our students have shown us how to do it and with a smile on their faces too.

From pairing socks lading a washing machine, knowing where to correctly place the detergent and how to hang clothes to dry on a maiden, no job has been too big or too small.

Home has been one of our students favourite this term and it has really shown by how well they have worked and progressed.

VE Day was a day full of learning and fun. Starting with visiting the ‘cafe’ for biscuits and juice, taking picture with our VE Day props, making homemade cloud dough, supporting the 2 minute silence and dancing the afternoon away to a live swing band, playing some fabulous classics for staff and students to enjoy.

From start to finish, this well organised day was truly enjoyed by all in the New Bridge Learning centre. This half term in Ebase 1 has been a pleasure and we can’t wait to see how the next term treats us.
