EBase 4 Update

Students in EbaseHMD have had a great start to the year.

Students have settled in well to their new environment at the learning centre. During the first half term our class engaged in multiple different activities, we would like to share some of what our students have been learning about so far.

World Mental Health Day on 10th October, during which we all as a class learned why we have this day to commemorate good mental health and the significance of it for all around us. We read a lot about emotions and what they mean to us. We created 3 side profiles of each student where they had different colours to represent different emotions they could be feeling and scattered around with words and pictures that reflect themselves.

In our Enrichment lessons we have travelled all around the world and discovered a lot about multiple different countries outside of our own. We made passports and plane tickets then travelled from Japan to Norway, form Brazil to Belgium. We made flags for each country and students created fact sheets about interesting facts we found out such as the northern lights in Norway and the different artic animals in Canada, Japanese festivals and Gravensteen Castle in Belgium. We completed many activities on these trips for example, we even tried making origami cats and Japanese dancer dolls.

Remember, remember the 5th of November. Gunpowder, treason and plot… The class loved learning about Bonfire Night. We learnt all about the plot of Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate this every year. We learnt about all the traditions like fireworks, bonfire toffee and even tried our hand at creating our own bonfires in the class… Don’t worry not actual bonfires just fake ones. Using all sorts of different materials like card, glitter and tissue paper we made 3 bonfires as a group that all have a sprinkle of each student’s individuality between them.

During the second half of the term we have learnt about Remembrance Day, learning about why it is important for us to commemorate the sacrifices that were made during past wars. In class we looked at the different poppies and what each colour represents. Students created a wreath made of handprints and coloured poppies, a memorial painting and large poppies made from coloured tissue paper and paper plates. The class participated in a two-minute silence at 11am to show our respects.

In summary, I think the whole class can say that we have had a fantastic term with all students participating in making this term an amazing one so far, we all can’t wait to share with you what we have been doing next time!
