Girls Group Update

This week, we have continued designing neurodiverse handbags. Our Girls Group has expanded this week, and it was lovely to see more collaborated work taking place with some great ideas shared amongst each other and the building of some good friendships.

Next week we will be making the actual bags. If anyone has any old plain black T Shirts, please feel free to donate them to the Girls Group,

The girls also enjoyed a little downtime listening to calm music after a busy week.

We look forward to sharing the start of the actual bag next week.

Have a lovely weekend, ‘The Girls’

IT Artwork

In our IT lessons with Mr Lancaster, we have been designing artwork in Canva for our door windows in the health and social care room. We have also printed them off for them to be stuck on the window doors which talk about what we have been learning about in the HSC pathway.

IT Sports Profile

In our IT lessons (Activ8) with Mr Handrick, we have been designing sports profiles in Canva for our walls.

Mr Lawerence wants to have a profile of each student of their skill set to be displayed.

Hopefully these will add a bit of WOW factor in the room when people walk in.

GO TEAM!!!!!

Lumenus

This half-term Lumenus will be working on the script, ‘King of the Trees’ by Alice Bunker – Whitney, for the OPAN festival at the beginning of February. We will be performing a section of this piece at Christmas at Oldham Theatre Workshop.

The students took part in a read-through just before half-term and this week we looked at the opening section of the play, which is a Tree, who is the central being of the play and narrator. The students worked on choral speech, soundscapes and movement. They created the opening scenes using these skills.

On Tuesday in movement therapy the students took part in trust exercises, moving around the room concentrating on eye contact then moving around the room with eyes closed, heightening our auditory senses. We always take an emotional check in at the beginning and end of each session, which overall, shows increased emotional well-being at the end of each session.

In music on Fridays, we are looking at music through the ages and beginning to make a list of possible music/songs for our show.

Maths

Autumn 2 is well underway and progress continues within the Maths department. The main topics are centred around parts of numbers. The various groups have been working on Decimals. Fractions and Percentages, at ability appropriate levels. Mr Hollands group have spent the week working out percentages of amounts and applying increases and decreases in percentages.

Mr Holland’s groups have been challenged to be able to exceed 28 mixed times tables questions correctly, in less than a minute. Those who are passing this challenge, on the ‘Hit the Button’ app are being rewarded with a very large chocolate bar. Mr Holland is having to apply for a new mortgage to be able to provide the prizes!
