Girls Group Update

This week the girls have been busy and focused on starting the bag... already it is looking fabulous. I would just like to commend the students for their excellent team working skills. It is lovely to see them collaborate together and support each other.

If you are able to take some time to support a worthy cause, this year the Girls are putting together hampers for SPARK Oldham to help those that are struggling during Wintertime. You can donate items of food and gifts to Reception at New Bridge College. Every item will be appreciated.

RSHE Update... GMP Visit New Bridge College

This week, students from Lumenus Digital, HSC and the Activ8 pathway took part in an engaging online safety workshop delivered by PCSO Andrew Bigland, who many of our learners will recognise from previous sessions at the college. Andrew brought his usual mix of energy, honesty and real-world stories, getting everyone involved and thinking carefully about how to stay safe online.

The workshop explored some of the most important issues facing young people today, including misogyny, the growing incel subculture, hidden meanings behind emojis, bullying, cyberbullying and sexual exploitation. Misogyny and the incel subculture are newly identified areas within the upcoming RSHE 2025 guidance, so students had the opportunity to understand these themes, how they appear online and why it’s vital to challenge harmful attitudes. Andrew also highlighted how certain emojis are being used as coded symbols in unsafe online spaces, which came as a surprise to many.

Students discussed the impact of bullying and online harassment, and learned how situations can escalate quickly without the right support. Andrew explained the stages of grooming and exploitation in a clear, accessible way, emphasising how important it is to speak to a trusted adult and know how to report concerns.

All students completed a feedback questionnaire at the end of the session, offering thoughtful reflections on what they had learned. Many commented on how eye‑opening the workshop was and how much more confident they now feel in recognising unsafe online behaviour. Andrew has shared some feedback about our students... “Your students were exceptional. They were fully engaged, incredibly polite, and a real credit to the college. Their behaviour throughout the workshop was exemplary.”

We’re excited to welcome PCSO Bigland back on Monday 24th for another workshop, this time with BTG and Future Finders. If this week’s session is anything to go by, they’re in for another valuable and empowering experience.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
