BTG

BTG have had four more students settle into their placements over the last couple of weeks. All students have completed Inductions and spent time meeting members of staff. Students have also been familiarising themselves with their individual job descriptions.

HSC

As Black History Month unfolds, HSC students have actively engaged in exploring the remarkable life of Mary Seacole, a pioneering nurse and a significant figure in the history of healthcare. Their studies have illuminated the profound racial prejudice Seacole faced during her lifetime, a struggle that underscores the broader historical context of discrimination and resilience. Through diligent research, the students have not only learned about her invaluable contributions during the Crimean War but have also gained insight into the societal barriers that she bravely confronted as a woman of colour in the 19th century.

To creatively express their newfound knowledge, the students collaborated to produce an original rap about Mary Seacole, capturing both her spirit and the challenges she overcame. This artistic endeavour allowed them to channel their research into an engaging performance that highlighted Seacole's legacy. When they performed the rap for a small audience of staff members, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Mr. Lancaster and Miss O’Donnell expressed their admiration for the creativity and thoughtfulness that went into the project, praising the students for their ability to honour Seacole's story while also showcasing their talents. This project not only celebrated a significant figure in Black history but also fostered a sense of community and appreciation for diversity.
