Boxing

Float like a Butterfly, Sting like a Bee!

Today at the College, students in Activ8 were privileged to have a very special guest.

🥊 Professional Boxer, ‘Super’ Mauro Silva gave an amazing guest talk to the students, sharing his boxing journey and experiences. This was followed by an excellent boxing pads masterclass at MAHDLO.

The students loved every minute of the talk and class. Huge thanks to Mauro! 🥊

Destiny Update

This week, two of our Destiny students were at the Etihad stadium for the North-West ADCS conference. They had been commissioned to capture videography of the event and create a promotional film. Harrison and Gianfranco worked extremely hard for the full day, using DSLR videography cameras to record candid 'b-roll' footage of the different workshops taking place, using wide lenses and zoom lenses to frame the different guest speakers and attendees, and record a series of interviews as well.

These two students are in their second year of Destiny and are growing with confidence when at events like this, demonstrating videography and communication skills.

Well done guys!

Pre-Internships So Far...

Students have worked extremely hard since they began their journey on the Pre-Internship pathway in September.

Keep up the good work... learning and achieving!

A Day in the Life of Ray...

‘Hi I am Ray and this is my day in the life about my first year in the Pre-Internship Pathway.

Joining the Pre-Interns in September I have gained a good relationship with my job coaches, I have learnt new skills whilst out on work placement which is strengthening my confidence. I work alongside my peers and take guidance from my job coach Sophie.

Whilst on my work placement I complete multiple of tasks such as restocking the tea, coffee and sugar, restocking the milk making sure they are in date and there is enough.

I have recently worked in the kitchen preparing students lunches, I am now completing a new task of working on the pot wash.

I like to serve customers on the iPad, this is up lifting my communication skills and building up my confidence with new people.

My favourite task whilst on work placement is taking the customer orders into the kitchen, I read each order out to the kitchen staff ready for them to prepare. I also enjoy taking the customers’ orders out to them this could be takeaway meals or eating in meals.

Another task I like is helping out with the kitchen preparing the students meals I place items into the food boxes and place them into a black box ready to be sent to college.’
