Christmas Jumper Day!

Health & Social Care Students Shine in Christmas Jumper Day Fundraiser!
This week, our incredible Health and Social Care students truly embodied the spirit of giving as they dedicated their time, energy, and creativity to support Save the Children through our annual Christmas Jumper Day fundraiser.
For weeks, the students have been hard at work behind the scenes—designing resources, planning activities, preparing festive activity packs, and spreading the word across campus. Their enthusiasm was contagious and their commitment to making a difference never wavered.
On the big day, they didn’t just turn up—they showed up. They served hot drinks, encouraged donations, and brought warmth and joy to everyone who passed by. Their teamwork and determination made the event a huge success.
We are thrilled to share that they raised an amazing £120 for Save the Children!
This achievement is a testament to their compassion and drive to support children around the world. Every penny raised helps transform lives—and our students played a vital part in that change.
A massive thank you to everyone who donated, supported, and celebrated with us. Your generosity, combined with the students’ hard work, made this fundraiser truly special.
Thank you to Kayleigh, Kyra, Nikita, Maia and Katie for all their hard work!!!

Christmas Mime Video Session
Today the students worked together to film a fun and light-hearted Christmas mime video. Using Canva, they recorded a series of short clips, each one miming along to classic festive hits from Shakin’ Stevens and Paul McCartney.
Once the filming was complete, the group moved on to editing, selecting their best shots and stitching them together in Canva to create a playful, upbeat final video. The students experimented with transitions, timing, and layout to match the rhythm of the songs and add a bit of humour to the performance.
Everyone contributed creatively and confidently, resulting in a joyful Christmas video full of personality and teamwork.

Mathematics Update
Over the past couple of weeks in Mathematics, some of our classes have been exploring the topic of Time. We’ve been converting between analogue and digital clocks, switching confidently between 12‑hour and 24‑hour formats, and building a strong grasp of the key vocabulary and benchmark numbers that make time-telling second nature. To stretch our problem‑solving muscles, students have tackled exam‑style questions that involve calculating durations—counting efficiently in 5s and 15s to work out elapsed time and plan step‑by‑step solutions.
We’ll wrap up the unit by applying these skills to calendars and timetables, helping students read, interpret, and organise real‑life schedules with independence. It’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow from simply reading a clock to reasoning about time in authentic contexts—like planning journeys, sequencing events in a day, and checking start and finish times.
In Mr Holland’s groups, we have been looking at probability and Ratio. The probability topic also helps give students an understanding of why gambling rarely pays, as the ever-nasty Mr H offers students the chance to win £20, knowing that the odds are against the students. We also point out that if the students had paid a nominal amount to play, he could have spent Christmas in the Maldives, rather than ‘not so sunny’ Bolton!
We have ended the term with the students’ first attempt at Level 1 and Level 2 past papers, as a mock exam. This establishes the students’ need to follow the given procedures and develop their awareness and confidence in managing an exam situation.
