Celebration Blog
The theme of celebration at New Bridge School has ‘rolled on ‘into the last 2 weeks of term .
I am going to start this blog with a brilliant experience for me on Monday of this week. 7 DPD delivered an envelope to me full of letters that the class had written on the use of persuasive language.
The class were writing requesting that I would allow them to watch the ‘Gangster Granny' Film. So, I cleared by diary and down I trotted to the North Wing and everyone from 7DPD, got their chance to read to me.
And it was amazing – the use of language, the structure of the letter to include what the group wanted to happen, when and why.
The last part of the lesson went to a ‘point' system – where students had to give me at least one thing they had learnt from their first year here at Roman Road. The final result came in ………. (drum roll please) and I made the decision – they got to watch Gangster Granny. Thanks, 7 DPD, for allowing me to see and be part of your amazing week.
On Thursday – it was time to celebrate the staff achievements and Mrs Birch Hall and I were invited to the celebration of some training for our Teaching Assistants. Our TA’s do an amazing job. They support the students, organise the lesson as well as work at break and lunch times. Mrs Holland and Mrs Ball have done a brilliant job with our staff, looking at how they can develop their skills and professional development. The feedback from all colleagues was incredibly positive and I can’t wait to see what is next for these staff in the next part of their journey.
This week we’ve welcomed 3 work experience students into school. George, Lily and Zack have joined the PE team this week to gain insight into working in a school like ours is like. They have all been a massive asset to the team and we’ve really enjoyed having them about. Well done and thanks to the staff who have supported them.
I really don’t know where to start about today. Our leavers assembly is always a brilliant time in the school year as it looks at the achievements of our students over the past 3 or 5 years. First up was year 9 and they were amazing – from songs, poems and anecdotes about our amazing students and what they've achieved in their time with us. Mr Lyons and I were blown away by the presentations of the staff team and how they talked about their classes – with pride and admiration for their achievements. Well done, Mrs Lenge and the team.
Next up was IB and again the room was full of emotion (and tears) when staff talked about the amazing young people, their achievements and their ability to ‘light up' rooms with the personalities and presence. Again – I saw the staff deliverer presentations which were just beautiful. Just like the children themselves. We also mentioned the students who have passed away. We will never forget these students and feel grateful to have been part of their journey.
Last up was AB and this celebration went with a bang!!! Again – our AB students are unique, funny and individual in their own right. Staff told their journeys – from year 7 to present day – including their funnier and memorable moments. And then AB, being AB. finished the ceremony with a dance about and song "You’ve Got a Friend in Me”. This was just a lovely end to the day of celebrations.

Oh and I nearly forgot – we also had a visit from the an ice cream van – as a special end of year treat to our students and staff – as a ‘thank you' for working with a business outside of school. It was just amazing.
I’m finishing this blog on a sad note.
Katie, a year 12 student, passed away 2 weeks ago and this week we attended a ceremony to celebrate her life.
Katie was a beautiful young lady, with a love of being around people, shopping and music.
She was a young lady who brought love and happiness to whoever she met. My favourite memory was when her family were surprising her by taking her to Little Mix (big fan) and we posted lots of posts telling everyone that she was going (she didn’t know). We will miss her beautiful smile, her laughter and joy.
That’s it from me . It’s been such an amazing week and we have another 5 days to go.
Enjoy the sunshine (and Oasis for those people lucky enough to get tickets...)
Take care, stay safe
